Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six games on Thursday (Oct. 13) afternoon, defeating visiting Adrian College, 3-0, at Scotland Yard.
Alma (6-3-3 overall, 5-2-3 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) outshot the visiting Bulldogs, 27-14, and peppered Adrian goalkeeper Haley Barnes with 17 shots on goal, while junior goalie Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) posted her third shutout of the season, making eight saves and keeping the Bulldogs (5-8-1, 3-7-1 MIAA) at bay despite several point-blank scoring changes.
"We know it's a tough conference and we know we have to grind out results," Head Coach Ashley Bingaman said. "The win today was awesome and I'm so proud of the team for the heart and the fight. We executed and played a solid performance for 90 minutes.
"We take all the lessons learned - good and bad - from each day and use that to make us better. This team has grit and passion and that's what has gotten us to this point."
The Scots scored in the 70th minute when junior Whitnee Foote (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) sent the ball into the top left corner of the goal off of a one-time pass from senior Macayla Greiner(Hart, Mich./Hart).
Alma took a 2-0 advantage in the 82nd minute when freshman Lexi Moyer (Suttons Bay, Mich./Traverse City West) sent a hi-arching shot into the net after junior Ashley Bonam (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) played the ball forward.
Senior Jessica Burg (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge) added a goal in the 85th minute off of a pass from Greiner, who tallied two assists in a game for the second time this season and extended her point streak to three straight game. Burg also extended her point streak to four games.
The Scots now take to the road for four of their last six games, starting on Saturday, Sept. 15, with a noon game at Olivet College.
