#25 Scots Women's Soccer team battles to a 2-2 draw with Adrian College on Tuesday afternoon

The #25 ranked Alma College Women's Soccer team hosted Adrian College on Tuesday afternoon for a big MIAA tilt and the teams battled to a 2-2 draw at Scotland Yard. The Scots are now 6-1-2 in the league and 9-2-2 overall, while the Bulldogs left town with a record of 8-2-2 in 2012 and 5-2-2 in the MIAA.

"Today was a very disheartening result, especially the way we played the last 65 minutes of the game, as we were all over them but their goalkeeper made save after save," said Scots Head Coach Jeff Hosler. "When you outshoot a team 36-11 with so many quality chances and have the run of play for as long as we did, you would expect to win the game.

"What our girls have to understand is that to be successful at the level we want to have success, focus has to apparent on every single play for the duration of the match. Today was another example of how when you lack awareness defensively, quality teams will make you pay. We are conceding far too many goals."

The Scots took a 1-0 lead at 38:23 when Fr. D Allison Smith (Commerce Township, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) lofted a high shot into a heavy wind that got up and over Adrian GK Chayna Wallace for an unassisted goal. The Bulldogs tied the game on a penalty kick by Sam Barker at 40:59 and the two teams went into halftime knotted at 1-1.

Alma controlled play throughout the second half and it finally paid off when So. M Kailey Vlug (Coopersville, Mich./Coopersville) scored on an assist by So. D Samantha Waldrop (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) at 62:58. Barker converted one of the few Bulldogs' chances of the half at 72:21, tying the game at 2-2 and that is how regulation would end.

Two overtime periods would not produce a winner however, and even though the Scots had the better opportunities, the game would end with the final score of 2-2.

The final tally for shots in the game belonged to Alma by a margin of 36-11, including 14-6 in shots on goal. Jr. M Taryn Handyside (Montrose, Mich./Hill-McCloy) paced the home team with 10 shots, including three on goal, while Vlug finished with a team-high five shots on goal.

So. F Mackenzie Smith (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel) saw three of her six shots hit the net, while Fr. M Kalyn Berinti (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) had two shots on goal. So. GK Morgan Waier (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) recorded four saves in the tie.

The Scots next play on Thursday afternoon, when Olivet College hits town for a 4:00 p.m. MIAA match at Scotland Yard.
