Women's Soccer defeats Trine 2-0 on Saturday afternoon

On a beautiful sun drenched early fall afternoon, the #24 ranked Alma College Women's Soccer team defeated visiting Trine University 2-0. The win on Saturday improved the Scots' league record to 5-1-1 and 8-2-1 overall, while the Thunder fell to 1-7-2 in 2012 and 0-5-1 in the MIAA thus far.

"It was good to back out on the field today and the girls were very eager after Thursday's match," said Alma Head Coach Jeff Hosler. "We were prepared and took the game to them for the entire 90 minutes. We just need to be better with our delivery and finishing."

The Scots wasted no time in taking control of the game as Fr. M/F Agatha Weddle (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) scored just 3:49 in, assisted by So. M/F Kailey Vlug (Coopersville, Mich./Coopersville). Alma took a 2-0 advantage at 17:57 as Jr. M/F Taryn Handyside (Montrose, Mich./Hill-McCloy) hit the back of the net on a shot assisted by Jr. D/M Catherine Olson (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney).

Neither team would scored in the second half but the Scots controlled the flow throughout, outshooting the Thunder by a margin of 17-0, including 2-0 in shots on goal. For the game, Alma had 33 overall shots to Trine's one and the home team came out on top of the shots on goal by a mark of seven to one.

Six Alma players had shots on goal during the match, led by So. D Samantha Waldrop (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), who had two. So. GK Morgan Waier (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) was the recipient of stellar defense in front of her and earned the shutout victory with one say against the Thunder.

Alma next plays on Wednesday afternoon, when they host MIAA foe Albion College at Scotland Yard. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
