Alma Women's Soccer drops 2-1 decision at Kalamazoo Wednesday night

The Alma College Women's Soccer team played an MIAA road game at Kalamazoo College on Thursday evening and were swarmed by the Hornets, who came away with a 2-1 victory. With the loss, the #24 ranked Scots fell to 4-1-1 in the league and 7-2-1 overall, while Kzoo is now 4-2 in the MIAA and 6-3 in 2012.

"We weren't disciplined defensively in the first half and we lost our focus and did not stick to the game plan in the second half and that cost us the match," said Scots Head Coach Jeff Hosler. "We have to start changing behaviors and decisions that have been repetitively made that affect us in a negative manner. Tomorrow will be spent watching film and having further tactical conversations. I'm interested in seeing how this team responds to a loss."

Kalamazoo controlled the action for most of the match and got on top of the Scots early when they scored just 4:42 into the game for a 1-0 lead. Alma responded at the 14:20 mark when So. F Mackenzie Smith (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel) scored on an assist by So. D Samantha Waldrop (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer).

The game remained tied until 71:33, when Kalamazoo broke the stalemate with a tally that gave them the decisive 2-1 advantage. For the game, the Hornets outshot Alma by a mark of 16-6, including nine to four in shots on goal and came away with the big home victory.

So. GK Morgan Waier (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) had seven saves in net for the Scots and Smith paced the visitors with two shots on goal. Fr. F Kelly Wilson (Midland, Mich./Dow) and Fr. M/F Agatha Weddle (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) each had one shot on goal in the loss.

Alma returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Trine University at Scotland Yard, beginning at Noon.
