Under the lights on Thursday night, the Alma College Women's Soccer team hit the road to take on MIAA foe Adrian College. The game, a rematch of the 2011 MIAA Tournament Championship, ended in a 0-0 draw after neither team could score in 110 minutes of action. The Scots are now 3-1-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs stand at 3-0-1 in 2012.
"It was a well fought match on both sides tonight and neither team was going to give an inch," said Alma Head Coach Jeff Hosler. "I thought our girls prepared well, brought intensity and focus on our first midweek road test. Our team defending was superb."
Each team finished the game with 13 total shots a piece, with five on goal for the Scots and seven on goal for the Bulldogs. Alma had two in the first half, two in the second and one in the first overtime, while Adrian notched three in both halves and one in the initial extra period.
Leading the way for the Scots was So. F Mackenzie Smith (Saginaw, Mich./Saginaw Nouvel) with five total shots and two on goal. Three other players - Jr. D/M Autumn Root (Haslett, Mich./Haslett), Fr. F Kelly Wilson (Midland, Mich./Dow) and So. M/F Kailey Vlug (Coopersville, Mich./Coopersville) - each had one shot on goal.
So. GK Rachel Doptis (Macomb Township, Mich./Macomb Dakota) recorded a shutout for the Scots by stopping all seven of the shots on goal against Adrian and is now 1-0-1 on the season.
Alma continues 2012 MIAA action on Saturday when they travel to Olivet College to take on the host Comets, beginning at Noon.
