Wrestling struggles at Case Western Reserve Duals

Cleveland, Ohio – The Alma College wrestling team went 0-3 at the Case Western Reserve Duals Saturday (Jan. 4). The Scots fell to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 45-3, University of Chicago 41-10, and Mount Union University 35-13. Brendan Ladd (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) led Alma with a 2-1 record on the day.

What Happened

  • To start the day, Alma faced off against UW-Whitewater. Gus Richter (Durand, Mich. / Durand) got the only win of the dual in the 184 weight class with a win by decision 8-6.
  • In the next dual against Chicago, Nicholas Dawson (Gladstone, Mich. / Gladstone Area) won by forfeit and Ladd won by major decision 16-4.
  • Jayce Kuehnlein (St. Louis, Mich. / St. Louis) got the first win for the Scots in the last dual against Mount Union. He won a hard-fought match by decision 13-10.
  • Joseph Muzzin (Riverview, Mich. / Woodhaven) and Ladd both dominated their opponents. Muzzin pinned his opponent in 2:06. Ladd won by major decision 13-2.
