Chicago, Ill. - The Alma College wrestling team resumed action on Saturday (Dec. 30) taking on host University of Chicago, Harper College (IL), and Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the Chicago Duals. Sophomore Brendan Ladd (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon) entered the day ranked third in the country in the 141-pound weight class, but could not escape the Chicago Duals unblemished.

As a team, Alma went 0-3 during the event.

What Happened

  • Brendan Ladd finished the day with a 2-1 record, defeating Gage Bayless of Chicago by pinfall and Craig Stallings of Harper by technical fall. Ladd fell short of going three-for-three, dropping his match with Jordan Meyer of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Meyer entered the day ranked 16th in the nation at 141 pounds.
  • Freshman Austin Wieczorek (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) was the lone Scot to earn points in all three duals, earning a 6-0 victory over Ryan Boncamper of Chicago, along with two victories via forfeit in the 125-pound class.
  • At 149 pounds, sophomore Jake Anderson (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams) claimed victory in the dual with Chicago, defeating Chaise Hauck by a 7-5 decision.

  • Ladd's first match of the afternoon with Chicago's Gage Bayless was a rematch from the Trine Invitational. Ladd defeated Bayless in a 16-5 major decision on Nov. 11.
