Alma, Mich. - The Alma College wrestling team wrapped up the home portion of the 2015-16 campaign on Thursday (Feb. 4) night with a dominating 39-7 victory over Trine University at Art Smith Arena. The Scots took eight of the 10 weight classes to win their 10th straight home meet.

Five seniors - Shawn Brewer (New Boston, Mich./Huron), Caleb Huff (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis), Jamie Jakes (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child), Trevor Maresh (Northville, Mich./Northville) and JJ Sadler (Wetmore, Mich./Munising) were honored prior to the meet. Every senior, with the exception of Sadler, participated in the meet and won their match. Sadler, who has spent most of the season injured, did not compete, but represented the Scots in the coin toss.

Junior Victor Sosa Sevilla (Wilmington, N.C./Eugene Ashley) picked up a major decision at 125 pounds to put Alma up early, but Trine responded with wins in the 133 and 141-pound matches to take a 7-4 advantage after three matches. It was all Scots from there, as Alma won the remaining seven bouts, including two by pinfall and two by technical fall, to cruise to the win.

Freshman Evyn Bryant (Romeo, Mich./Romeo) notched his ninth pin of the year at 149 pounds, while Brewer improved his record to 20-5 with his second technical fall of the year. Freshman Jared Fleming (Williamston, Mich./Williamston) picked up an 8-6 decision in his varsity debut at 165 pounds, while sophomore Travis Heller (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) recorded his seventh pin of the season 39 seconds into the 174-pound match to up his overall record to 24-6. Huff won by major decision at 184, while Jakes was given a victory by forfeit at 197.

In the final match of the evening, Maresh scored a first-period technical fall to close out the match and improve his record to 16-2.

The Scots, 13-5 in duals this season, will be in action on February 13 when they travel to Ada, Ohio, to participate in the MId-States Championships, hosted by Ohio Northern University.

QUOTES

Head Coach Todd Hibbs

"The big thing about senior night is that you want to get them all in the lineup and have them all get a win, and we were able to do that. They've been a great group and it's unbelievable how they've put us on the map in the nation in wrestling. Kudos to them, the've been a great class."

"We've been resting a few guys to make sure that they are ready (for the NCAA Division III Regionals) and these guys will get a week where they will train in the weight room and get a little rest off of the mat and then a couple of weeks to get ready for the regionals. If we wrestle like we have on our best days this year - when we were at Mount Union and Adrian, a couple of times where we hit peak performances - if we do that, we know we can take half or more of our team to the national tournament and do what people have been saying. We can be a top six or top eight team in the country."
