Scots garner first national ranking in program history

The 2013-14 Alma College wrestling team was recently tabbed as the #24 team in the country by in a poll released last week. The Scots totaled nine points which puts them tied for 24th in DIII with Brockport (NY) and Centenary (NJ).

This was the first time since the wrestling program was reinstated in 2011 that Alma has found itself ranked in the top 25. The Scots, who feature six individually-ranked wrestlers, were also pegged as the #29 team in the country by the NWCA in it's latest poll.

Sr. Matt Tuttle held on to his #5 ranking at 165 this week, boasting an impressive 9-0 record. Joining Tuttle are juniors Tyler Foley (125),   Casimer Strzynski (141) and Jared Groeneveld (184), and So. Trevor Maresh (197) as Scots to be ranked multiple times this season, while So. Jamie Jakes made his debut in the rankings at 174. The six ranked individuals are the most since Alma head coach Todd Hibbs brought the program back in 2011. 

"Gaining our first ranking in both the coaches' poll and the rankings simply demonstrates that our guys are making progress toward their goal of being a top team regionally and nationally, said Hibbs. "Did they earn this? I believe they have. But it certainly isn't the end goal. Living up to - and beyond - a ranking at the end of the season is the goal." Rankings #3
