Tacoma, Wash. – The Alma College women's lacrosse team opened their 2017 season with a 20-1 loss to Whitman College on Sunday (Feb. 26).
Whitman set the pace after scoring two goals during the first three minutes of play. Alma allowed Whitman to score 13 unanswered goals to enter the halftime break with a 13-0 lead.
With 14:46 remaining in the second half, senior Kaitlyn Urick (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Glenbrand West) would find the back of the net off a free position attempt to make the score 16-1.
In her debut game, freshman Nikki Reece (Livonia, Mich. / Ladywood) led the Scots with four groundballs, two draw controls and three caused turnovers. Senior Miranda Kruse (Ann Arbor, Mich./ Ann Arbor Pioneer) was in goal for the entire sixty minutes.
The team will continue its spring break debut when it plays Puget Sound University on Tuesday (Feb. 28) at 7:00 p.m. Alma will continue its road trip to Linfield College for its third game Wednesday (March 1). The game is set to start at 9:00 p.m.
