Women's Golf has strong first day at Defiance Invitational

Defiance, Ohio - The Alma College women's golf team had a strong first day at the Defiance College Fall Invitational at the White Pines Golf Course on Saturday (Sept. 7). The Scots finished with an overall team score of 327, finishing three strokes shy of the school record and ending the day in third place behind Grace College and Manchester University (IN).

Individually the Scots were led by freshman Morgan Yates (Shepherd, Mich. / Shepherd High School) who finished the first round with an overall score of 79. Yates ended her day in third place in the individual standings, as well. Also having a good day for the Scots was sophomore Ava Gardiner (Sterling Heights, Mich. Adlai E. Stevenson) who finished one stroke behind Yates with a score of 80. Junior Grace Grelak (Canton, Mich. / Salem) shot an 83.

The Scots will continue play at Defiance for Day Two of the Invitational beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 8).
