Freshman Morgan Yates earns MIAA Player of the Week Honors in Women's Golf

Freeland, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced Monday (Sept. 3) that freshman golfer Morgan Yates (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd High School.) has earned Player of the Week honors in women's golf. Yates took first place at the Labor Day Classic hosted by Olivet College over the weekend at the Medalist Golf Club. On Saturday (Aug. 31), Yates shot a 77 (+5) with three birdies on her scorecard. The next day Yates continued her strong play and took top honors in the event.  Despite adding three strokes to her score, Yates was able to finish with an overall score of 157 (+13) and hold off Olivet's Nicole Deweyert by two strokes. The Scots finished in second place over the weekend behind the host Comets.

Yates and the Scots will be back in action next weekend in Swanton, Ohio, to compete in the Defiance College Fall Invitational from the White Pines Golf Course. Round one begins at noon on Saturday (Sept. 7).
