Yates Finishes First at Labor Day Classic

Marshall, Mich. - The Alma College women's golf team finished the Labor Day Classic at the Medalist Golf Club in second place on Sunday (Sept. 1), improving on its first-round score by six strokes.

Morgan Yates (Shepherd, Mich. / Shepherd High School) continued her strong play in the second round, finishing in first place despite adding three strokes to her score. She finished two strokes ahead of Olivet's Nicole Deweyert for the distinction of top individual scorer with a score of 157 (+13).

Kirstyn Cotton (Midland, Mich. / Midland) took three strokes off her first-round score and finished tied for tenth place with a 171 (+27). Jennifer Kowalczyk (Northville, Mich. / Northville) also finished four strokes better than Saturday, coming in with a 176 (+32). Ava Gardiner (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Adlai E. Stevenson) posted a 90 on Sunday, finishing with a 182 (+38) and Grace Smith (Frankenmuth, Mich. / Frankenmuth) rounded out the team with a 206 (+62).

The Scots are traveling again next weekend, this time to Swanton, Ohio to compete at the Defiance Fall Invitational at the White Pines Golf Course. Round one begins at noon on Saturday (Sept. 7).
