Women's Golf in Fifth After Fall Finale Day 1

Battle Creek, Mich. - The Alma College women's golf team played in the first round of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Fall Finale on Friday (Oct. 5) afternoon at the Bedford Valley Golf Club. The team shot a 346 (+58), tying for fifth place with Olivet College. After Day One, St. Mary's sits in first place with a score of 304 (+16). The Belles had four of the top five finishers on the day. 

The Scots are also in fifth place in the conference with 1745 total strokes, now 10 strokes behind Calvin with one round remaining. Alma is also within striking distance of Albion, which is in third place and 12 strokes ahead of the Scots.

How It Happened

The Scots were led again this week by senior Tori Basso (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lake Orion), who shot an 81 (+9) and tied for ninth place. 

Also in the top 20 for the Scots was freshman Ava Gardiner (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Adlai E. Stevenson), who scored an 86 (+14). Seniors Kennedy Hilley (Lake Odessa, Mich. / Lakewood) and Hannah Joslin (Linden, Mich. / Linden) tied for 22nd overall and each shot an 87 (+15). Grace Smith (Frankenmuth, Mich. Frankenmuth) had a score of 90 (+18), and Jennifer Kowalczyk (Northville, Mich. / Northville) shot a 92 (+20), finishing in 38th.

The Fall Finale tournament will wrap up tomorrow afternoon and conclude the fall season for the Scots. Tee time is 9 a.m. back in Battle Creek.
