Granger, Ind. - The Alma College women's golf team finished in fifth place at the second Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree of the season on Saturday, September 22. The Scots had a score of 365 (+77), beating sixth-place Olivet College by two strokes.
The Scots are now in fifth place in the conference after two MIAA tournaments. Saint Mary's and Hope have a tight grip on the top two spots, while Calvin is in third with 714 strokes, Olivet is in fourth with 716 and Alma is in fifth with 718. There is a 27-stroke gap between the Scots and sixth-place Trine.
How It Happened
- Senior Tori Basso (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lake Orion) led the Scots with a score of 82 (+10) and tied for second place. In the top 20 of all golfers, freshman Ava Gardiner (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Adlei E. Stevenson) shot an 89 (+17).
- Tallying a 96 (+24), sophomore Kirstyn Cotton (Midland, Mich. / Midland) ended the day in a tie for 34th place. Senior Kennedy Hilley shot a 98 (+26).
- Rounding out scoring for the Scots, Grace Smith (Frankenmuth, Mich. / Frankenmuth) and Hannah Joslin (Linden, Mich. / Linden) had scores of 101 (+29) and 105 (+33), respectively.
- St. Mary's College walked away the winners of today's event, shooting a 324 (+36).
The Scots will compete in the third MIAA Jamboree this Tuesday (Sept. 25) at the Ravines Golf Club in Saugatuck. Tee time is at 1 p.m.
