Women's Golf Wins Alma Invitational

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's golf team won the Alma Invitational on Saturday, September 15 at the Pine River Country Club. It was Senior Day for the Scots, who scored a 341 (+53) and finished one stroke ahead of Aquinas College. 


  • Alma had four golfers finish in the top ten, led by freshman Ava Gardiner (Sterling Heights, Mich./ Adlai E. Stevenson), who shot a career-low 83 (+11) and tied for fifth place overall. Seniors Tori Basso (Lake Orion, Mich./ Lake Orion), Kennedy Hilley (Lake Odessa, Mich./ Lakewood), and Hannah Joslin (Linden, Mich.Linden) all tied for ninth place, each scoring an 86 (+14). Sophomore Kirstyn Cotton (Midland, Mich./ Midland) rounded out the top five of team scorers for the Scots, shooting a 93 (+21). 
  • Golfing individually, Olivia Benoit (Grosse Point, Mich./ Grosse Point North) and Grace Smith (Frankenmuth, Mich./ Frankenmuth) had scores of 90 (+18) and 91 (+19), respectively. Jen Kowalczyk finished 26th and shot a 94 (+22), and senior Nikki Palmer rounded out the scoring for the Scots with a 98 (+26). 
  • The Scots celebrated senior day at the Invite and will graduate four seniors at the end of the season - Basso, Hilley, Joslin and Palmer.

The Scots will be back in action on Saturday, September 22 at the second MIAA Jamboree in Granger, Indiana. Tee time is set for 1 p.m. at the Knollwood Country Club.
