Alma Topples Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Alma College women's basketball team defeated Kalamazoo College on Monday by a score of 80-49 in a non-conference game. The Scots go back to .500 on the season with a 6-6 record while the Hornets fall to 0-8. The Scots were led by the dynamic freshman duo of Morgan Hanchett and Taylor Sas who both had spectacular nights.

Hanchett, the Scots' leading scorer this season, posted a career-high 25 points on 9-of-21 shooting that included four 3-pointers made. The Jackson native also grabbed five rebounds and tallied three assists and three steals. Sas netted 22 points and shot 7-of-10 from the floor with four 3-pointers made. The Saginaw native had a game-high six assists, four rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. 

Alma held a two-point advantage after the first quarter and built on the lead in the second thanks to nine points each from Hanchett and Sas in the second stanza alone.

The Scots dominated the third quarter as they went on a 14-0 run to start the second half. By the end of the frame, Alma led by 25. The Scots coasted their way through the fourth while they only allowed the Hornets to make three of their shots from the floor in the final quarter. 

As a team, Alma earned season-highs for assists (21) and rebounds (52). Taylor Findlay tied with Sas for a game-high six assists and also grabbed six rebounds. Kendall Griffioen posted a team-high eight rebounds. Jeny Brandt led all players with three blocks and also recorded seven rebounds.

"I thought we started slow on the defensive end tonight, but was really proud of how we played in the second half," Head Coach Sami Stormont said. "Morgan Hanchett and Taylor Sas were great for us tonight."

The Scots prepare for their final two games of the regular season. On Wednesday, Alma will head to Olivet College for a 7:00 p.m. tilt with the Comets. Then on Saturday, the Scots host Adrian College at 3:00 p.m.
