Grand Rapids - The Alma College women's basketball team fell to Calvin University 70-50 on Wednesday (Feb. 26) evening.
Stasha Warchock (Marquette, Mich. / Marquette) led the Scots with 14 points and eight rebounds. Hannah Thelen (Pewamo, Mich. / Pewamo-Westphalia) had nine points, four rebounds and two assists. Jeny Brandt (Escanaba, Mich. / Escanaba) finished with eight points, six rebounds and one assist. Oretha Humphries (Detroit, Mich. / Detroit Edison Public) had eight points. Madison Hill (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) had five boards and three assists. Jackie Jarvis (Fowlerville, Mich. / Fowlerville) had three rebounds and two assists.
Alma led 16-12 after the first quarter. The Scots forced Calvin into 5-of-14 shooting and five turnovers. Fourteen of Alma's 16 points were scored in the paint.
Neither team shot well in the second quarter but Calvin benefitted from a disparity at the free throw line. Alma was called for five fouls less than five minutes into the quarter. Calvin took a 31-21 lead into the half.
Alma had its best shooting quarter in the third when it made six of its 11 shots. It also forced Calvin into 35 percent shooting and trailed by 13 going into the fourth. Warchock came alive in the fourth, scoring 10 of her 14 points in the frame.
This concludes the 2019-20 season for the Scots. They finish with an overall record of 12-14, a conference record of 7-9 and have made the MIAA playoffs in each of the last two seasons.
