Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's basketball team crushed Olivet College 76-39 on Wednesday (Jan. 29) evening in a wire-to-wire win. The Scots (9-10, 4-6 MIAA) led by as much as 40as they held the Comets to under 25 percent shooting from the field.
Jeny Brandt (Escanaba, Mich. / Escanaba) and Emily Eldridge (Battle Creek, Mich. / Battle Creek Lakeview) both led the Scots with 12 points apiece. Eldridge pulled in nine rebounds while Brandt had seven. All of Eldridge's stats came in the first half. Taylor Findlay (Reese, Mich. / Reese) had nine points and five rebounds, all of which also came in the first half. Maddie Robbins (Saint Johns, Mich. / Saint Johns) had a game-high six assists.
The Scots jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter and led 23-6 after one. They kept the same energy in the second, holding Olivet to four made field goals in the first half. Alma led 42-10 at the half.
Alma fared better than Olivet in nearly every statistical category. The Scots had more total rebounds (53-30), offensive rebounds (16-5), assists (19-2) and points in the paint (42-18) than Olivet.
Deedee Post led the Comets with 12 points on 4-of-12 shooting. Hannah Brown added nine.
The Scots remain at home for their next game. They will welcome Calvin University to Art Smith Arena on Saturday (Feb. 1) for a 3:00 p.m. game.
