Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's basketball team dropped a 65-62 decision to Albion College on Saturday (Dec. 7) afternoon. The loss drops the Scots to 0-2 in the conference and 4-5 overall while Albion improves to 8-0 and 1-0 in the MIAA.
The Britons held a 10-point lead midway through the fourth quarter when Alma mounted a comeback. The Scots cut the deficit to two with 2:34 left when Jeny Brandt (Escanaba, Mich. / Escanaba) converted a layup. Albion was able to push the lead back up to six and Alma again cut it in half with a three from Stasha Warchock (Marquette, Mich. / Marquette) with 36 seconds left. The Scots forced a miss on the defensive end but couldn't convert the game-tying three-pointer as time expired.
Warchock led all scorers with 24 points on 10-of-20 shooting. She added five rebounds and two steals. Hannah Thelen (Pewamo, Mich. / Pewamo-Westphalia) also scored double figures with 11.
Both Amanda Larson and Elena Welker scored 20 for the Britons. Larson also pulled down 10 rebounds.
Alma has a week off before traveling to Olivet to play the Comets on Saturday, Dec. 14. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
