Women’s Basketball Slowed Down in Fourth Quarter

Wheaton, Ill. - The Alma College women's basketball team came up short against Wheaton College 72-61 on Saturday (Nov. 16) evening. Hannah Thelen (Pewamo, Mich. / Pewamo-Westphalia) was named to the All-Tournament Team after playing all 40 minutes in each of Alma's two games and averaging 11 points, five rebounds and five assists.

The Scots (2-2) led 48-47 after three quarters but struggled in the fourth, shooting 5-for-16 in the final frame and getting called for 12 fouls.

Stasha Warchock (Marquette, Mich. / Marquette) led Alma with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting. She also had six rebounds and two assists. Emily Long (Dayton, Ohio / Arch Bishop Alter) had a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with 11 points. Thelen scored 13 points, pulled down four boards and dished out four assists.

Despite a below-average shooting percentage from the field, the Scots were strong from long range. Alma was 9-of-18 from three-point territory, the most makes and the highest percentage its had in four games thus far.

Jackie Jarvis (Fowlerville, Mich. / Fowlerville) and Charley Hengesbach (Saginaw, Mich. / Nouvel Catholic Central) each had six points off the bench. Jarvis added three rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes. Jeny Brandt (Escanaba, Mich. / Escanaba) was cooled off for the first time this year, putting up three points and eight rebounds.

Alma will travel to Earlham College (IN) for its next game on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m.
