Barnauskas Earns All-Conference Honors

Freeland, Mich. – Senior forward Madeline Barnauskas (Livonia, Mich. / Dearborn Divine Child) of the Alma College women's basketball team has been named to the All-Conference Second Team by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association as announced Tuesday (Feb. 19) by the league.

The Livonia native appeared in all 25 games during the regular season while starting in 19 of them that saw the program improve their win total by nine from last season, finish the highest in the conference since the 2004-2005 season and most victories in a single season since the 2003-2004 campaign.

Barnauskas ranks 12th in the conference in scoring, averaging 10.6 points per game including 11.4 in 16 conference games played. In 10 games the senior was the team's leading scorer including the final four where she shined down the stretch for the Scots putting up over 17 points per contest during Alma's four-game winning streak to finish off the regular season. The forward scored a season-high 22 points in the 65-49 victory at Saint Mary's on February 13 that secured a home playoff game for the Scots.

On Saturday (Feb. 16) Barnauskas was honored along with the 2019 senior class before the home game against Adrian College. She scored a game-high 15 points and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds in the 64-51 win over the Bulldogs.

The forward shoots 78 percent from the free throw line currently and has made her last 10 shots from the charity stripe heading into the postseason. As a team, Alma is on pace to shoot more than five percentage points better than they did last season.

The senior will look to keep her collegiate career alive Tuesday night as the Scots host Calvin College in the First Round of the MIAA Tournament at 7 p.m. Barnauskas averaged 17 points in the two regular season matchups with the Knights this year.
