Freeland, Mich. – Sophomore center Jeny Brandt (Escanaba, Mich. / Escanaba) has been awarded MIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week. This is Brandt's first conference award of her collegiate career and she is the second Scot this season to earn the honor.
Brandt provided some lights out shooting in Alma's two games this week with 16 points against Adrian College on Wednesday (Dec. 5) and then a career-high 17 points at Olivet College Saturday (Dec. 8). The Escanaba native led all players in scoring in both contests. She shot 15 of 20 from the floor for the week.
The sophomore was great off the glass with 11 rebounds each in the conference matchups to earn her first and second double-double of the season. Brandt had a big board late in the win over Adrian when she grabbed a missed Alma shot and sent it in for the bucket. The score ended a run by the Bulldogs and helped hold them off in the 54-49 road victory.
The center currently leads the Scots with a 55.3 field goal percentage. She ranks second on the team in rebounds (51) and blocks (15). Brandt's block total is the fourth highest in the MIAA.
Brandt and the Scots have the week to prepare for their final home and conference matchup of the 2018 calendar year as St. Mary's (IN) arrives Saturday for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
