Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's basketball season came to a close on Saturday afternoon with a 69-59 loss to Adrian. It was Senior Day for the Scots; the team's three seniors, Tara Padgett (Freeland, Mich./Freeland), Kaitlyn Kendall (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) and Breanna Collins (Sheridan, Mich./Central Montcalm) were honored before the game. The 1992 Division III NCAA Champion team was also celebrated during halftime of the game; it is the 25th anniversary of the team's victory over Moravian.
Padgett led the team with 15 points, adding three steals. She made two three's in the game, finishing her career with 111 three's made, tied for sixth all-time. She also has 159 steals in her career, fifth on the all-time list.
Alma (8-17, 6-10 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) trailed by one after the first quarter and fell behind by 12 at the half. In the third quarter, the Scots outscored Adrian (13-11, 8-8 MIAA) 27-16, including a 16-5 run to close the quarter to get back to within one. Alma took a 54-52 lead at the 7:26 mark of the fourth, but the Bulldogs were able to bounce back and regain the lead. They hit their final six free throws to ice the victory.
Kelsey Wolffis (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) posted two points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Though she did not record a block, she holds both the all-time and single season records in blocks with 124 and 65 respectively.
Alma attempted 28 free throws, the most in a game this season. The Scots also grabbed 32 rebounds, the most in four games.
