Freeland, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced junior Aubrey Hemstreet (Portage, Mich. / Portage Central) of the Alma College track and field team as its Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Monday (Mar. 25). This was the first time the award was given for the 2019 outdoor season.
Hemstreet had a great run in 10k at the Indiana Wesleyan Polar Bear Invitational on Saturday (Mar. 23). The junior opened her outdoor season with a career-best 39:34.95 which broke her previous record by 84 seconds. Hemstreet crossed the line third overall and as the top Division III runner at the event.
The Portage native's time from this weekend is the 13th fastest in the nation this season while also ranking fifth in the MIAA. This is the first conference award Hemstreet has earned in her career at Alma.
