Freeland, Mich. – Junior Luke Reed (Benzonia, Mich. / Benzie Central) was named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week as the conference made the announcement Monday (Jan. 28).
Reed helped the Scots finish third amongst the men's competition at the Defiance Invitational Saturday by winning the 3000-meter run. The junior finished six seconds ahead of the next runner with a time of 9.29.82 which is seven seconds shy of his personal best for that distance. It was Reed's first victory of his collegiate career during the indoor season.
This is the Benzonia native's first honor by the conference in his career and the second time a Scot has taken the honor of men's indoor track athlete of the week this season. Overall, five Alma track and field athletes have earned an MIAA distinction through five weeks of the indoor season.
