Naperville, Ill. - Three Scots of Alma College track and field travelled to the campus of North Central College (Ill.) to compete in the Gregory Invitational on Wednesday, May 17 and Thursday, May 18.
Senior Kaitlyn Arnold (Jackson, Mich. / Jackson Northwest) ran in the women's 5000-meter run on Wednesday (May 17), posting a second-place finish with a time of 17:40.46. Her season-best time of 17:14.57 from last week's Dr. Keeler Invitational sits 27th in NCAA D-III, leaving Arnold within reach of qualifying for the event at the national championship meet.
Arnold also competed in the women's 1500-meter run on Thursday (May 18), posting a fourth-place finish with a season-best 4:37.36. As of May 18, Arnold's time would place her within three seconds of qualifying for the national meet in the 1500-meter run.
Sophomore Justin Jones (Rockford, Mich. / Cedar Springs) ran in the men's 5000-meter run on Wednesday, the first time he has competed in the event this season. His time of 16:50.16 placed him in the top half of the field.
Freshman Jacob Wildenhaus (Jackson, Mich / Lumen Christi) competed in the men's 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 16.27 seconds. His time left him 11th in the preliminary round, missing the finals by just over a second.
Head coach Matthew Chovanec and Kaitlyn Arnold will await word on Arnold's qualification into either the 1500-meter or 5000-meter run for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio. The meet is scheduled for May 25-27.
