Swim and Dive Opens MIAA Championships

Grand Rapids - The Alma College swim and dive teams opened the MIAA Championship meet at Calvin University on Wednesday (Feb. 22). The events consisted mostly of prelims. The only final contested was the 800 yard freestyle relay. As a team, the Scot men sit in fifth place with 28 points ahead of sixth-place Kalamazoo College, who has 10. On the women's side, the Scots are sitting in sixth place with 28 points. The women are close behind Olivet College, who has 34.

In the men's 800-yard freestyle relay, the team consisting of senior Cole Malhoit (Canton, Mich. / Canton), junior Max Carey (Highland, Mich. / International Academy West), freshman Nate Sutton (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill), and freshman Josh Mushinski (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill) finished in fifth place with a time of 7:40.90.

The women finished fifth in the same event. The team consisted of senior Sydney Louis-Ferdinand (Southfield, Mich. / Birmingham Groves), sophomore Sarah Gaines (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Liberty), freshman Sarah Wronski (Macomb, Mich. / Dakota), and sophomore Paige Thompson (Sister Bay, Wisc. / Gibraltar). The four women finished with a time of 8:24.08.

The Scots will be back in the pool on Thursday (Feb. 20) at 10:00 am from Calvin University in Grand Rapids.
