Kenosha, Wis. - The Alma College swim and dive teams continued the Carthage College Classic on Friday (Dec. 6). Both the men and women are currently in seventh place in the team standings. The women have 530 team points, while the men have 481 points. Host Carthage leads both the women's and men's team scores with one day of competition remaining.
For the men individually, they were led by freshman Nate Sutton (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill). Sutton finished in 6th place in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:50.09. Sutton was also apart of the 200 yard freestyle relay team with Cole Malhoit (Canton, Mich. / Canton), Josh Mushinski (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill) and Sawyer Hill (Wyandotte, Mich. / Wyandotte Roosevelt). They finished in 8th place with a time of 1:33.31. Hill was apart of the 400 yard Medley Relay team with Eli Thomas (McCordsville, Ind. / Mt. Vernon), Max Carey (Highland, Mich. / International Academy West), and Andrew Smith (Milan, Mich. / Milan) that finished 9th in 4:01.38
The women were led by junior Haven Westra (Jenison, Mich. / Jenison). Westra finished 5th in the 200 yard breastroke with a time of 2:36.03. In the 400 yard Medley Relay, the team of Jennifer Ostrowski (Northville, Mich. / Northville), Allison Brown (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake), Sarah Gaines (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Liberty), and Emily Diener finished in seventh with a time of 4:13.10. Brown, Ostrowski, and Diener also teamed up with sophomore Paige Thompson (Sister Bay, Wisc. / Gibraltar) to finish 8th in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.40.
Alma returns to the pool tomorrow morning for the third and final day of the Carthage Classic. The event will begin at 10:00 am.
