Swim and Dive Opens Carthage Invite

Kenosha, Wis. - The Alma College swimming and diving teams traveled to Carthage College in Wisconsin for day one of the Carthage College Classic Invitational. The three day event consists of  Division III teams from Wisconsin. Illinois, and Michigan. 

For the men they were led by freshman Nate Sutton (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill). Sutton was 5th out of 21 men in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 16:42.50. In the 800 yard freestyle relay, Sutton teamed up with Cameron Heintzleman (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Loy Norrix), Cole Malhoit (Canton, Mich. / Canton), and Josh Mushinski (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill) to finish in 6th place with a time of 7:43.57.  

On the women's side, senior Sydney Louis-Ferdinand (Southfield, Mich. / Birmingham Groves) finished in 11th place in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 19:21.68. Louis-Ferdinand was also on the 800 yard freestyle relay team with Sarah Gaines (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Liberty), Sarah Wronski (Macomb, Mich. / Dakota), and Paige Thompson (Sister Bay, Wisc. / Gibraltar). They finished in 7th place with a time of 8:33.37. 

Alma returns to the pool tomorrow morning for day two of the Carthage Classic. The event will begin at 10:00 am.
