Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Alma College Swim and Dive team opened its season at Calvin University on Friday (Oct. 25). The meet was against MIAA opponents and was a relay-style event.
On the men's side, the Scots finished ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke relay with a time of 2:05.34. The team consisted of freshman Eli Thomas (McCordsville, Ind. / Mt. Vernon), fellow freshman Andrew Smith (Milan, Mich. / Milan), senior Cole Malhoit (Canton, Mich. / Canton), and a third freshman Sawyer Hill (Wyandotte, Mich. / Wyandotte Roosevelt). The team of Thomas, Nathan Wilburn (Pinckney, Mich. / Pinckney Community), Cameron Heintzleman (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Loy Norrix), and Nate Sutton (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill) finished ninth in the 200-yard backstroke relay with a time of 1:50.66. Sutton, Malhoit, and Heintzleman also teamed up to finish seventh in the 1500-yard freestyle relay with a time of 16:20.83.
For the women, the Scots finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke relay with a time of 2:12.37. The team consisted of sophomores Jennifer Ostrowski (Northville, Mich. / Northville) and Allie Dilts (Belleville, Mich. / Belleville), freshman Emily Diener, and junior Haven Westra (Jenison, Mich. Jenison). The women also had a top 10 finish in the 200-yard backstroke relay, finishing seventh. Junior Alison Brown (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake), sophomores Sarah Gaines (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Liberty) and Paige Thompson (Sister Bay, Wisc. / Gibraltar), and freshman Sarah Wronski (Macomb, Mich. / Dakota) teamed up and finished with a time of 2:04.26.
The Scots will be right back in action when they face Albion College in a conference dual meet at home on Saturday (Oct. 26). The event will begin at 1:00 p.m. from the McClure Natatorium on the campus of Alma College.
