Swimmers Compete in Day One of MIAA Championships

Holland, Mich.- The Alma College swimming and diving team kicked off day one of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships in Holland today (Feb. 20), participating in the men's and women's 800 freestyle relays. 

The women's team is currently in fifth place with 28 points scored, while the men were disqualified from their relay and are currently unscored. 

The women's relay team of senior Kate Lehman (Haslett, Mich. / Haslett), junior Sydney Louis-Ferdinand (Southfield, Mich. / Birmingham Groves), sophomore Allison Brown (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake), and freshman Sarah Gaines (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Liberty) came in fifth place, finishing the race in 8:19.36 behind Kalamazoo college. 

The MIAA Championships will continue tomorrow (Feb. 21) through Saturday at the Holland Aquatic Center, with preliminary races at 10 a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m.
