Swimming and Diving Falls to Hope in Season's Last Dual Meet

Holland, Mich. - The Alma College swimming and diving team came up short in the regular season finale at Hope College on Saturday (Feb. 2) afternoon by a total score of 255.5-142.5.

Eric Ferrara (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson), Kate Lehman (Haslett, Mich. / Haslett), Caitlin Jodway (Westland, Mich. / Livonia Franklin) and Allie Dilts (Belleville, Mich. / Belleville) all earned first-place finishes for the Scots, while five others came away in second.

How It Happened

  • Eric Ferrara won the men's 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:04.30, beating Hope's Will Benner by nearly two seconds. Ferrara also finished second in the 200 yard IM at 2:13.00.
  • Kate Lehman won the women's 200-yard butterfly in 2:26.21.
  • Allie Dilts took first in the women's 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:39.56.
  • Caitlin Jodway and Allison Brown (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake) finished first and second respectively in the women's 200-yard backstroke. Jodway came in at 2:20.04, and Brown at 2:20.50.
  • Max Carey (Highland, Mich. / International Academy West) and Cole Malhoit (Canton, Mich. / Canton) squared off in the men's 200-yard butterfly. Carey came out on top in 2:12.03, .17 faster than Malhoit.
  • Sarah Gaines (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Liberty) came in second in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:08.21. Gaines also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle at 59.32.
  • Allison Brown placed second in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.08, .12 seconds behind first-place Paula Nolte of Hope.
  • Leevi Olson (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. / Sault Area) touched the wall in 23.72 for second place in the men's 50-yard freestyle. He also finished second in the men's 100-yard freestyle at 52.80, .21 behind first.
  • Will Brown (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake) finished second in the men's 200-yard breaststroke at 2:29.36.
