Swimmers Take on Clarkson University in Florida

Pompano Beach, Fla. - The Alma College swim and dive team traveled to southern Florida over winter break for a dual meet with Clarkson University. The Scots took second place against the Golden Knights with a combined score of 221-149. 

What Happened

  • The final score for the women's team was 88-95, the men 61-126. Alma took first place in seven events at this morning's meet, with senior Eric Ferrara (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) winning a pair of races for the men. 
  • Sarah Gaines (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Liberty), Paige Thompson (Sister Bay, Wisc. / Gibraltar), Claire Tembreull (Gladstone, Mich. / Gladstone Area), and Emily Kayden (Midland, Mich. / Bay City Western) took first place in the women's 200-yard freestyle event. They finished the race in 1:51.78, one second ahead of their Clarkson opponents. 
  • Alma led the way in the 200-yard individual medley events. Caitlin Jodway (Westland, Mich. / Livonia Franklin) took first place in the women's race (2:26.60), while Ferrara won for the men (2:08.34).
  • A pair of freshmen earned first place in the men's and women's 100 breastbone races. Jennifer Ostrowski (Northville, Mich. / Northville) finished the event in 1:12.68 and Will Brown (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake) in 1:05.65. 
  • The second victory of the day for Ferrara was in the men's 500 freestyle race, where he touched the wall in 5:05.79. In the women's event, Sydney Louis-Ferdinand (Southfield, Mich. / Birmingham Groves) won in 5:49.78.
