Alma, Mich. - The Alma College softball team dropped a pair of games to Saint Mary's on Wednesday (April 11) afternoon, 9-4 and 11-0 in five innings.
Kaylee Martin (North Branch, Mich. / North Branch) hit her first career home run in the game one loss. Madyson Piche (Sault Saint Marie, Mich. / Sault Area) went 2-for-4 and Katie McClure (Manchester, Mich. / Manchester) went 1-for-3 with a double in game one.
Mary Brooks (Portland, Mich. / Portland) tallied four strikeouts from the mound, one off her career-high.
How It Happened
Game 1 - Saint Mary's 9, at Alma 4
Saint Mary's produced five first-inning runs with a series of singles.
Alma picked up one run in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice fly but ended up stranding two runners.
Martin smacked a home run to deep right field in the bottom of the fourth to cut Saint Mary's lead in half.
Saint Mary's tacked three runs in the fifth inning on three singles and a walk.
Down 9-3 in the fifth, Alma picked up one run on a single from McKenzie Creed (Edwardsburg, Mich. / Edwardsburg). Later in the inning, the Scots loaded the bases once more but Riley Terwilliger (Mount Pleasant, Mich. / Sacred Heart Academy) hit a line drive right at the Belles' right fielder to end the inning.
Game 2 - Saint Mary's 11, at Alma 0 (5 innings)
Saint Mary's scored one run in the first inning and six in the third. Three of the Belles' six runs in the inning were unearned.
The Belles added four more runs in the fourth.
Alma is scheduled to play at Olivet on Friday (April 13) in a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
