The Scots were repaid for the whooping they put on Maryville College yesterday, losing today by the score Depauw University 11, Alma 1 in the second round of the NCAA Regional Tournament.
Coming off a dominating performance in first round play, senior Kay McDonald (Rosebush/Mt. Pleasant) was roughed up today giving up eight runs on eight hits in only two innings. Katie Koechling (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) came in and pitched solid in relief but gave up three runs in three innings, enough to allow Depauw to make short work of the Scots in the five inning win.
The Scots only run of the game came in the bottom of the second when freshman Houston Verbeck (Flint/Kearsley) stepped to the plate and sent the pitch on a one way flight over the left field fence.
Amy Gaudard (Mt. Pleasant/Mt. Pleasant), Sarah Johnson (Portland/Portland), and Emily Blahnik (Corunna/Corunna) each provided one of the Scots other three hits in the game.
The Scots will face four seed Anderson tomorrow at noon. If they win, they will face the winner of the Muskingum-Allegheny game, at 4:00 p.m.
