ALMA, Mich. - Alma College softball picked up two wins Tuesday, defeating Kalamazoo 7-2 and 11-1, respectively, at Scots Park.
Amy Gaudard (Mt. Pleasant) went 4-for-4 in game one while all but two Scots scored runs in the game. Emily Blahnik (Corunna) nailed her first home run of the season over the right center fence, going 2-for-3 on the day.
In game two, Missy Morcom (Chelsea) tied a school game record, knocking two home runs in the game - the first time that has happened since 2003. She joins an exclusive club of just four other Scots to accomplish the feat. She nailed the first home run over the left field fence in the second inning to score two runs and another straight shot over the middle in the fifth inning. She was followed by a Liana Easterby (Troy) home run.
Morcom played strong at the plate and in the field, making diving plays and catches to lead the Scots.
On the mound, Kay McDonald (Rosebush/Mt. Pleasant) was the star, striking out 16 of 25 batters, allowing two runs on three hits in seven innings of work. The second game saw Katie Koechling (Wheaton, Ill./North) strike out five in five innings, allowing just one run on six hits.
Alma is slated to return to the field this Thursday when it hosts Hope College at 3:30 p.m.
