SOFTBALL: Scots Season Comes to an End

After a tough loss to Depauw University yesterday, it would have been easy for the Scots to pack it in today and head home. But that's not what great teams do, and the 2007 MIAA Co-Champs had no intention of going home without a fight.

Behind a valliant effort by senior pitcher Kay McDonald (Rosebush/Mt. Pleasant) the Scots fought hard today before falling to Anderson University by the score 2-1, thus being eliminated from the NCAA Regional Tournament and ending a memorable season.

The Scots got on the board first when Taylor Erwin (Fenton/Fenton) reached base on a walk and scored on a single off the bat of Amy Gaudard (Mt. Pleasant/Mt. Pleasant). The third inning run turned out to be the only one the Scots could muster and after Anderson tied up the score in the fifth, it only took a lead off double followed by a sac bunt and a blooper to left in the bottom of the seventh to shut the door on the 2007 Alma College Softball season.

McDonald returned to form after a rough outing yesterday, only giving up five hiits and two runs while striking out eight. While nobody wants to end their career on the mound with a loss, the performance was nothing short of what Alma College has come to expect from their standout pitcher who battled all game and kept her team in contention until the very end.

Kay McDonald was one of three Alma College seniors who played their last game as Scots today. All three have played with pride and have represented the Maroon and Cream well.
