Men’s Tennis Takes Season-Opening Match

Marshall, Mich. - The Alma College men's tennis team edged out Manchester University (IN) on Saturday (Sept. 7) 5-4.

The Scots got singles victories from Brandon Ralston (Cadillac, Mich. / Cadillac), Brett Reuter (Armada, Mich. / Armada) and David Suidgeest (St. Johns, Mich. / St. Johns). Ralston won 6-1, 6-4, Reuter went 6-3, 6-1, and Suidgeest won 6-0, 7-5. In other singles action, freshman Merrick Bay hung with Blake Rentschler but ultimately fell 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. It was the only match to go three sets.

In doubles action, Ralston and Reuter teamed up to defeat Isaac Miller and Samuel Hollingsworth 8-6, while Suidgeest and Tait Morrissey (Canadian Lakes, Mich. / Big Rapids) took down Rentschler and Trevor Johnson 8-2.

The Scots turn right around for an 11 a.m. match with Olivet College on Sunday (Sept. 8).
