Men's Tennis Defeated by Illinois Tech on the Road

Grand Rapids, Mich.- The Alma College men's tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss to Illinois Tech on Saturday (March 10), playing a non-conference match on the campus of Calvin College.

The Scots (6-4 overall) picked up a win at No. 3 doubles and No. 3 and 6 singles against the Scarlet Hawks.

How It Happened 

  • The No. 3 doubles team of freshman Brandon Ralston (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) and senior Quinn Summerfield (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) defeated opponents Jack Pio and Connor Mullane 8-5. The doubles pair moves to 3-3 overall. 
  • After suffering defeats at No. 1 and 2 singes, senior Noah Ackerman (Munising, Mich./Munising) snagged a point for the Scots at No. 3 singles, with a 6-4, 6-3  victory against Adam Laitinen. Ackerman is 3-3 in the No. 3 slot and 4-0 at No. 2, posting victories in his last five matches. 
  • Alma earned its third and final point at No. 5 singles when Ralston defeated Broderick Croonquist, 6-4, 6-2. Ralston is 4-2 on the season in the No. 5 spot with six straight singles victories. 

Up Next

The Scots host Lake Superior State University on Sunday, March. 11, at the Alma College Stone Recreation Center. The match is scheduled for a 9 a.m. start.
