Men’s Soccer Stuns Olivet in Final Minutes

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's soccer team beat Olivet College 2-1 on Tuesday (Oct. 8) afternoon.

The Comets got out to a one-goal lead eight minutes into the game. Coda Mendoza sent a through ball to Josh Rosendale that brought Garrison Mast (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) out of net. The ball got knocked around but Rosendale recovered and scored on the empty net.

It wasn't until the 70th minute that Alma got on the board. Noah Canlas (Naperville, Ill. / Naperville Central) brought the ball to Albion's end line and passed to Brian Ganton (Williamston, Mich. / Williamston) at the front of the net. Through a scrum, Ganton easily tapped the ball in for his first goal of the season to tie the game.

Alma scored the go-ahead goal in the 88th minute off a corner kick. Danten McFate's (Haslett, Mich. / Haslett) initial chip wasn't on target, but Tanner Parrett (Muskegon, Mich. / Mona Shores) picked it up, found some space and fired a shot past Olivet keeper Andrew Aragon.

Alma outshot Olivet 27-8 in the match. It also took 12 corner kicks to Olivet's five. Mast needed only to make one save in the game.

Three players were given yellow cards in the contest: Olivet's Jesus Escalante and Joshua Rosendale and Alma's Hunter Nash (Haslett, Mich. / Haslett).

Alma returns to the pitch on Saturday (Oct. 12) when it travels to Albion to face the Britons at noon.
