Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's soccer team suffered a tough 2-1 loss against Ohio Northern University in double overtime on Saturday (Sept. 28).
The Scots came out strong at the beginning of the game. The Polar Bears' aggressive offensive attack, leading to a total of 32 shots for the entire game, kept Alma defense on its toes. The backline, led by senior Torsten Holland (Okemos, Mich. / Haslett) and freshman Keaton Walker (Petoskey, Mich. / Petoskey), kept ONU at bay. The strong defense led to an offensive break and in the 29th minute senior Kyle Farmer (Greenville, Mich. / Greenville) scored the first goal of the game with the help of senior Josh Stauffer (Midland, Mich. / Herbert Henry Dow).
In the 52nd minute, Ohio Nothern University's Levi King tapped in the Polar Bears' first goal. He scored again in the 105th minute off a free kick to win the game.
Senior Garrison Mast (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) played the entire game and made nine saves on 11 shots on goal. The Scots had five shots on goal from four different players. Senior Hebren Hein (Jackson, Mich. / Jackson) led the Scots with two shots.
Alma will be competing again on Sunday (Sept. 29) at 1 p.m. at Scotland Yard against Mount St. Joseph (OH).
