Men’s Soccer Falls to Carthage in Chippy Match

Kenosha, Wisc. - The Alma College men's soccer team came up short 1-0 against Carthage College on Sunday (Sept. 8) afternoon.

Ivan Esquivel scored the game's only goal in the 77th minute. Hebren Hein (Jackson, Mich. / Jackson) led Alma with four shots, while Danten McFate (Haslett, Mich. / Haslett) took two and Torsten Holland (Okemos, Mich. / Haslett) and Connor McCain (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Central) each had one.

Keeper Garrison Mast (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) made nine saves in the contest, tying his season-high. Alma was outshot 28-10 overall and 10-3 in shots on goal.

Four Scots were given yellow cards in the game: Holland, McFate, Noah Canlas (Naperville, Ill. / Naperville Central) and Brian Ganton (Williamston, Mich. / Williamston). Carthage's Freddy Martinez also received one.

The Scots have a week off before its next game. They will host Defiance College (OH) in their home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m.
