Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's soccer team topped Olivet College by a 2-1 margin on Wednesday (Oct. 11) at Scotland Yard as the Scots put together their first back-to-back wins of the season. The win also marked Alma's first win in front of a home crowd this season.
The Scots (2-5-2 overall, 2-8-3 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) scored both of their goals in the first half, with sophomores Hebren Hein (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) and Tanner Parrett (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) finding the net in the 10th and 15th minutes, respectively. Olivet scored in the 54th minute to cut the lead to one goal.
Justin Lavin made six saves in goal for the Comets (0-6-3, 1-10-3 MIAA) while sophomore Garrison Mast (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) stopped three shots, with all of his saves coming in the final 45 minutes.
How It Happened
- Hebren Hein gave Alma a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute after he took a pass from sophomore Noah Canlas (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) and sent a low shot into the left side of the net.
- Tanner Parrett scored his second goal in as many games in the 15th minute, beating Justin Lavin on the right side of the net.
- Olivet's Courtney Skerritt scored the Comets' only goal in the 54th minute, sending the ball past Garrison Mast off of a rebound from an initial shot by Alistair Law.
The Scots remain home to host Kalamazoo College on Saturday, Oct. 14, as part of a doubleheader at Scotland Yard. The men's team will face the Hornets at Noon, followed by the women's game at 3 p.m., where Alma will host Calvin College.
