Men's soccer shut out by #2 Calvin

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 setback to the No. 2 Calvin College Knights on Saturday (Sept. 23) on a hot day at Scotland Yard.

Calvin scored in the seventh minute to take a 1-0 lead, then netted two goals in a six-minute span to lead by a 3-0 margin at the half. 

Sophomore Garrison Mast (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) stopped five shots in goal for the Scots.

How It Happened

  • Hunter Olson gave Calvin a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute off of a centering pass from Mitch Stark.
  • Bobby McCaw made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute, scoring off a scrum in front of the net following a corner kick.
  • Trent Vegter scored his first goal of the season in the 29th minute off an assist by Olson to give Calvin a 3-0 advantage.
  • Olson netted his second of the game in the 62nd minute, while Jacob Wittee ended the scoring in the 68th minute.
