Alma, Mich. - Freshman Chase Hunyadi (Pepper Pike, Ohio/University School) of the Alma College men's lacrosse team has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced today (Monday, May 1) by the league office.
Hunyadi, who received the honor for the third time this season, totaled 20 points in two games last week as the Scots defeated Calvin College, 22-11, and Adrian College, 20-5.
Against Calvin, Hunyadi tallied an MIAA-record 12 assists and posted a league-record 14 points while also adding two goals. His assist total was the highest by any lacrosse player in the NCAA this season across all divisions and he became the ninth player in NCAA Division III history to notched 12 or more helpers in a game. Hunyadi then scored five goals and added an assist for six points against Adrian, recording his eighth hat trick of the season.
For the season, Hunyadi has a team-high 44 goals to lead the MIAA and has tied the school record for most goals in a season. He also ranks second on the team with 32 assists and 76 points.
Alma (11-5 overall, 6-2 MIAA) finished the regular season tied for second in the MIAA and is the No. 3 seed in the MIAA Tournament, which begins on Thursday, May 4. The Scots will travel to No. 2 Hope College for a 7:00 p.m. contest at Van Andel Stadium, with the winner advancing to the championship game on Saturday, May 6.
