Angola, Ind. - The Alma College men's lacrosse team picked up its first conference win of the season on Saturday (April 8), defeating Trine University, 13-8. The Scots (7-4 overall, 1-1 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association), snapped a two-game slide while recording their fourth straight win over the Thunder.
Freshman Chase Hunyadi (Pepper Pike, Ohio/University School) scored a game-high five goals and added an assist for six points, while sophomore Jared Nycz (Elma, N.Y./Iriquois) notched his fifth hat trick of the season with three markers while also tallying four assists. Hunyadi has now scored four or more goals in five of his last six outings.
Junior Daniel Buchy (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) also found the net twice as Alma jumped out to a 10-2 lead at the half and never looked back.
Sophomore goalie Cam Stelljes (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) made 18 saves in the win as the Scots were outshot by a 36-29 margin.
"We had a much better performance from the guys today," Head Coach Michael Kinney said. "It was great to see Jared Nycz, Chase Hunyadi and Danny Buchy finding their groove today. When our attack has 10 of our 13 goals, we've executed the game plan well."
The Scots will return to Bahlke Field to open a three-game homestand on Tuesday, April 11, hosting Olivet College. The opening face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
