Men's lacrosse has three-game winning streak snapped at Illinois Wesleyan

Bloomington, Ill. - The Alma College men's lacrosse team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday (April 1), suffering a 27-12 defeat at Illinois Wesleyan University as the Scots wrapped up non-conference play.

Sophomore Jared Nycz (Elma, N.Y./Iriquois) scored a team-high five goals and added an assist for Alma (6-3 overall), while James Maibuecher scored six goals for the host Titans (8-2).

Illinois Wesleyan led, 5-2, after the first quarter, and held a 10-7 advantage at the half after each team scored five goals each. The Titans took control in the second half, scoring nine goals in the third quarter and eight times in the final 15 minutes.

Sophomore Cam Stelljes (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) stopped a career-high 21 shots in three quarters of action as the Titans outshot the Scots, 68-32.

"When you face a team that is as explosive as Illinois Wesleyan, all you can do is hope you play a mistake free game and their wheels come off," Head Coach Michael Kinney said. "That did not happen today. The score doesn't reflect the amazing game that Cam Stelljes had, but now all of our focus and attention is turned to our MIAA competition."

The Scots open the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association portion of their schedule on Wednesday, April 5, when they travel to Hope College for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
