Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's lacrosse team scored a school-record 25 goals Saturday (March 18) afternoon en route to a 25-8 victory over Northland College (WI) at Bahlke Field. Alma improved to 5-2 overall with the victory, while the visiting Lumberjacks, in their first year as a varsity program, dropped to 2-5.
Freshman Chase Hunyadi (Pepper Pike, Ohio/University School) scored a season-high six goals and tallied three assists for a season-high nine points to lead the Scots, while sophomore Jared Nycz (Elma, N.Y./Iriquois) posted 3-3–6 totals for his third hat trick of the season. Hunyadi's point total ties him for the second-best single-game performance in school history, while he becomes one of only three players in program history to score six or more goals in a game.
A total of 11 different players found the net for Alma in the win, including junior Bryce Bohrmann (Grand Rapids, Mich./Pennville), who tallied four goals to end his week with a total of 12 markers and two assists in two games. Sophomore Johnathon Durga (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) notched his first career hat trick with three goals, senior Mitch Adams (Novi, Mich./Novi) netted a career-high two markers, and freshman Sam McCumber (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) recorded the first two goals of his career. In addition, junior James Fulghum (Lansing, Mich./Holt) and freshman Jacob Urbano (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) scored their first career goals.
Alma lead by a 15-1 margin at the half on its way to victory and outshot Northland by a 56-22 margin.
The Lumberjacks were led by Andrew Henderson's four goals, while Luke Sandberg and Matt Follmer split time in net. For the Scots, senior David Smith (Royal Oak, Mich./Royal Oak) got the start in goal and made three saves on 11 shots while recording his second win of the season.
Alma will return to Bahlke Field on Wednesday, March 22, to host the College of Wooster (OH) for a 6:00 p.m. game.
