Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's lacrosse team swept the Player of the Week awards from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the league office announced today (Monday, March 6).
Sophomore Jake Ellens (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) was named the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career after scoring seven goals and tallying four assists for 11 points in three games last week as the Scots went 2-1. Ellens netted a season-high four goals in the 15-13 win at Southwestern (TX) on February 27, then totaled two goals and two assists for four points in an 8-7 setback at Hendrix (AR) on March 1. In the home opener against Elmhurst (IL) on Saturday (March 4), Ellens had a goal and an assist and netted a goal with 4:17 remaining in the game to put the Scots ahead for good.
In four games this season, Ellens has 10 goals, second-best on the team, and has tallied 14 points to rank third.
Sophomore Adam Cousineau (Canton, Mich./Salem) was named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career after guiding the defense to a pair of come-from-behind victories. Cousineau recorded 12 ground balls and caused seven turnovers in Alma's three games, including six caused turnovers as the Scots attempted a comeback at Hendrix. Cousineau also tallied four ground balls against Elmhurst, and Alma converted each one into a goal to erase a six-goal deficit.

The Scots return to Bahlke Field on Saturday, March 11, to host Baldwin Wallace University in a non-conference game. Opening face-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. and admission is free.
